The Sport
Climbing is both a physical and mental challenge. It's about tackling a bouldering problem or high-wall route that you have never seen before, and figuring out the best way to ascend. It's about working with others to develop a solution, or finding alternative methods. It's about pushing yourself to climb that route that you didn't quite get yesterday, but know you could if you had just one more shot at it.
"It's not just for rock climbers anymore."
Nationally, only about 10% of gym climbers have ever been on a rock face. More and more, people are turning to indoor climbing as an alternative to the monotony of weight training and the traditional gym scene. They are recognizing the demands that proper technique places on the core muscles of your body as well as arms, legs, hands and shoulders. Contrary to common perception, climbing places a premium on balance and control much more than sheer physical strength.
So don't worry if you've never climbed before, we can get you geared-up and started in the right direction. You'll figure out your style as you go - after all we were all beginners when we started.
"It's safer than you think."
The truth is that more people get hurt bowling than get hurt climbing. With proper equipment and training, climbing risks - especially for indoor climbing - are much more manageable than you might suspect. We have designed our wall to meet and exceed the rigorous standards put forth for climbing wall structures by the Climbing Wall Association (CWA) - newly released in 2009. Our staff is trained to help you learn proper safety methods to keep you safe on the wall and on the ground.
Safety and responsibility are our priorities. Fun and fitness are byproducts of a naturally energizing sport.
Whatever you're after - fitness or fun - climbing can get you there. So go ahead, Climb Your Rock.
